Mounts & Riding
Attacking
- Single Attack: While mounted, you can only make 1 attack (of any sort) per round.
- Ranged Attacks: You can’t make ranged attacks while mounted unless you are at least Professional in the use of the weapon.
Delicate Actions
You can’t take delicate actions while riding. This includes things like writing, playing an instrument, assembling a technological device, etc. If the bumping and jostling of a horse would cause problems for you then you can’t do it while riding - unless you attempt a Dexterity check (or relevant skill check). This is typically a Challenging (DC 20) check.
Movement
Your mount is a minion. You can compel it to take a move action while you are riding it and move up to its movement speed. If your mount moves while you are riding it, you cannot also take a move action yourself. Example: If Yolanda the Eternal rides her trusty horse Silver-Toes 50 feet, she cannot then dismount and move her normal speed. She must choose other actions.
Targeting a Mount
You can freely decide between hitting a mount or its rider (as it’s a minion).
Mounting/Dismounting
You can mount or dismount a creature with a single action.
Reflex Saves
While riding, use the higher Reflex save for actions that involve the pair avoiding physical things. If it’s something that targets the rider or mount specifically, you may use the target’s Reflex save specifically. A failed Reflex save (by mount or rider) normally results in a rider being thrown from their mount.
Charging While Mounted
If you are mounted you can take the charge action but both you and your mount must spend 2 actions to charge. Use your mount’s speed when determining how far you go (double your mount’s speed). If you have no actions to spend, only your mount charges and attacks.
